Episode Transcription

Hi and welcome to the psych health and safety podcast. My name is Jason van Schie and I am a psychologist and one of the hosts of the show.

Well 2021 is going to be an exciting year – not just because it’s no longer 2020 -  the area of psychological health and safety is about to receive a huge boost. In Australia we are expecting an update to the model WHS act that will put far greater emphasis on employers to have a preventative approach to psychological injuries in place – and spoiler alert - fruit bowls and yoga won’t cut it!

From a global perspective we are expecting the first internationally agreed standard on psychological health and safety at work to drop in the coming months. This will place workplace mental health under the occupational health and safety management system and require more involvement from health and safety professionals.
